"The man who rears a dog must complete what the breeder began:
The breeder can indeed lay the foundations of a good and serviceable dog,
But the trainer must see to it that he brings to it their highest possible
development and physical and mental foundations already laid.

I meet my first PBGV in 2000 and instantly fell in love with this happy little hound. The Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen (Peh-TEE Bah-SAY Gree-FOHN  Vehn-DAY-uhn)  is a scent hound from the Vendeen region of France. They are bred for hunting small game in packs. They have been described as happy, comical, mischievous, friendly, energetic, stubborn, sweet, unrepentant, smart, rugged, active, bold,  exuberant and curious as a cat. They have a deep, musical hound's voice and their rear-ends are constantly  wagging.  They have a quick, lively gait and an irresistible face. They're independent, yet willing to please. Most of all, they're "busy," and cannot stand to be ignored.  While they can make wonderful companions  The PBGV is not a breed for everyone. Being a scent hound  they have a tendensency to follow their noses.   Some have been known to "dig their way to China", go visit the dog next door, go under the fence, or just dig  for the sheer "joy" of digging. Before you fall for this adorable little face please take the time to learn more about the breed.  Then find a reputable breeder who will help you find a healthy good tempered dog. I hope you will find the following links enjoyable and informative.
