The dog lover in his breeding aspires after no material
and external advantage. He allows himself to be
contented with the fact that association with noble,
beautiful and gifted creatures, the observation of the
phenomena of their lives, and the examination of all that
happens in their breedings afford him a whole cycle of
pure joys and contentment, and allow him to penetrate
further into the secrets and the mysteries of Nature.
These joys will repay him, (who indulges his fancy
without self-seeking,) for all the sacrifices in money,
time and trouble, and even for all failures and disillusions.
-Capt. Max von Stephanitz

I have a premonition that soars on silver wings,
It is a dream of your accomplishment
Of many wondrous things,
I do not know beneath which sky
Or where you'll challenge fate,
I only know it will be high,
I only know it will be GREAT!

We hope to someday be a small hobby kennel that emphasizes the total Dog.
Whether in the home, on the training field, or in the conformation ring, Rioghail dogs will be up to the challenge.
All of our dogs are raised and trained from puppies. Once they have joined
our family a dog remains part of the clan for the duration of his or her life.
Rather than use professional trainers or handlers; we are out there in the field and
the ring training and competing with our dogs. This may cause us to take longer to achieve our goals, but it is well worth it.
A close involvement with raising, training, and competing allows us to
honestly evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of temperament, structure and
working ability. We don't just claim to have "total dogs", we will prove it...

Our goal is to breed a few litters
on a limited basis, once we find the dog that has the qualities
and characteristics deserving to be passed on.

Our desires are to work toward improvement of the breed we
love so well not to produce for fame or money.

While all our dogs are loved and cherished by us. And
while all our dogs have excelled at one thing or another.
We have not found that one outstanding total dog who has what
we are looking for to become the foundation of our kennel.
But that is ok. For we'll keep working and learning  and,
most importantly; having fun enjoying time with our dogs.
